Privacy Policy

Effective Date: July 17, 2026

This Policy explains what iKeyMapper ("the App") and its website collect, why, and who processes it. The data controller is Forinset OÜ (Estonia). Questions or data requests: ikeymapper.support@forinset.com.

1. Information We Collect

Stays on your device (never sent to us):

  • Keystroke & Tap Events: Captured in memory only, to evaluate your mappings. They are never written to disk and never transmitted.
  • Keyboard Information: Details about the keyboards attached to your Mac, so you can create mappings and activate interception on the one you select.
  • Mapping Profiles: Your custom mapping configurations, stored locally and in any file you choose to export.
  • Diagnostic Logs: The App keeps a local log of its own activity (license checks, errors, and the actions you take, such as pressing Buy or Activate) in your Application Support folder. Keystrokes are not recorded in this log, and license keys and device identifiers are masked within it. The log never leaves your Mac unless you choose to send it to us (see "Diagnostics you send us").

Sent to our licensing service (to run licensing and trials):

  • License Key: The key you enter, so we can activate and verify it.
  • Device Identifier: A fingerprint derived from your Mac's hardware serial number. We use it to enforce the per-device limits of your license (for example, a 1-, 2-, or 3-device plan) and to let you free up a device by deactivating it.
  • Device Name and macOS Version: To help you recognize your activated devices and for support.
  • When and how often: On activation, on app launch, and periodically while the App runs, the App contacts the licensing service to confirm your license is still valid. If it cannot reach the service, it continues to work offline for a grace period before asking you to reconnect.
  • Free Trial: If you request a trial, we also receive the email address you provide, together with the device identifier and device name, to issue the trial and enforce one trial per device.

When you purchase:

  • Email and Name: Collected at checkout to deliver your license key and invoice, and to handle refunds.
  • Purchase Records: We store a record of the transaction (email, name, amount, Stripe identifiers, the issued license key, and license/device limits). Payment card details are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card number.

Diagnostics you send us:

  • If you use the App's "Email Diagnostics" or "Contact us" options, the message you send includes your license key, device identifier, device name, macOS version, and a recent portion of the local diagnostic log, so we can help. This is only ever sent when you choose to send it.

2. How We Use Information

  • Real-time Mapping: Keystroke and tap events are used solely to trigger or block your mappings, in memory.
  • Licensing: The license key and device identifier are used to activate, validate, and enforce the limits of your license, and to prevent abuse (such as repeated free trials on the same device).
  • Purchases & Support: Email, name, and purchase records are used to deliver your license, send invoices, provide support, and process refunds.

We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

3. Legal Basis (EEA/UK)

  • Performance of a contract: Processing your license key, device identifier, email, and purchase records to provide the App and deliver what you paid for.
  • Legitimate interests: Verifying licenses, enforcing per-device limits, and preventing trial abuse and piracy.
  • Legal obligation: Retaining transaction records for tax and accounting purposes.

4. Permissions

Input Monitoring & Accessibility: Used only to intercept and simulate keystrokes for mapping logic. You can revoke them at any time in macOS System Settings; doing so disables mapping.

5. Service Providers

We do not sell your data or share your keystrokes or mapping profiles with anyone. To operate licensing, payments, and delivery we rely on the following processors:

  • Stripe — payment processing and invoicing.
  • Google Firebase / Google Cloud — hosting, database (purchase and trial records), serverless functions, and the licensing service that validates your license.
  • Our email delivery provider — to send your license key, trial key, and receipts.

6. Data Security

We use reasonable technical safeguards to protect your data. Keystroke events are processed only in memory; license keys and device identifiers are masked in the local diagnostic log; and transmissions to our services use encrypted connections (HTTPS).

7. Data Retention

  • Keystroke Events: Never persisted; exist only in memory while the App is active.
  • Mapping Profiles & Local Logs: Stored on your device until you delete them (logs also rotate and self-limit in size).
  • License, Trial & Purchase Records: Retained for as long as needed to provide licensing, honor device limits, handle refunds, and meet legal and accounting obligations.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, email ikeymapper.support@forinset.com. Note that deleting your licensing records may deactivate your license. You can also:

  • View & Edit Profiles directly in the App at any time.
  • Deactivate a Device from the App's license settings to free up an activation.
  • Revoke Permissions in macOS System Settings.

9. Children's Privacy

iKeyMapper is not directed to children and is not intended for use by children under the age of 13.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy; the "Effective Date" will reflect the change. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
